Outdoor Chaise Lounge Guide

Relaxing out in your patio or deck is a very pleasant pastime. You can watch the clouds scuttle across the sky or gaze at the stars as they twinkle merrily in the night sky. An outdoor chaise lounge is the perfect way to do all those without getting a crick in the neck.

Getting an outdoor chaise lounge needs careful consideration. As when choosing any furniture piece, you need to consider a few things so that you’ll be able to select the best one for your outdoor space. Read for more information on the next furniture piece that will grace your patio or deck.

There are four types of outdoor chaise lounges that you can choose from: Wood or wicker, plastic, aluminum, and wrought iron. Knowing the qualities of each will enable you to determine which type will work best for you.

A chaise lounge made of wood or wicker will give a natural, if not a bit rustic, feel to your patio. There’s a variety of woods that are made into chaise lounges, including teak. In some woods, most notably teak, its natural oil helps protect it from the elements. Wicker chaise lounges can be made from reed, rattan, bamboo, abaca, or willow. A wicker chaise lounge would have a country look and would add to the charm of your space. Wood furniture is easy to maintain and is very durable.

Plastic chaise lounge is very easy to keep clean and maintain. It is also durable and can last a long time. However, plastic furniture may discolor when exposed to the elements for a long period of time. You may have to change your chaise lounge every now and then to maintain the color or shade you want for your space.

Aluminum is a light and durable material and is therefore recommended for outdoor use. It doesn’t corrode easily. You can move your chaise lounge anywhere on the lawn easily enough. Now just because it is light, it doesn’t mean it cannot withstand great weight. It can carry weight up to 300 pounds.

Since wrought iron can be bent and designed into various styles, there are more designs available with this material. It will give your deck a classic atmosphere. Wrought iron chaise lounges are a bit heavier than others made of different materials so if you’re going to buy one, make sure you don’t have to move it every so often. Iron is also less resistant to the wear and tear of being exposed to the elements, due to rusting. However, weather-resistant finish can be applied so that it withstands the beating from the weather. You can also opt to store it in a sheltered place when not in use or get a chaise lounge cover for it.

You can also add cushions to any chaise lounge you choose to add to its comfort. And although they are designed for outdoor use, when you can, put on specially designed covers or store them under your patio to keep them from being exposed to the rains. This way, you can enjoy the comforts of your chaise lounge for a longer period of time.
